BAIL OF £SOOO

HOLLYWOOD GOLFER CASE OF JOHN MONTAGUE REFORMATION WORKED OUT By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 27, 7.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 26 A message from Elizabethtown, New York State, says that 400 spectators, including the lilm actor Otto Kruger, who packed the tiny courtroom, heard the Judgo grant bail of £SOOO to John Montague, the Hollywood mystery golfer, who was extradited by the police. It is alleged that he is identical with a man involved some years ago in a hold-up. Although the district attorney vigorously opposed bail, tho Judgo said Montaguo resembled Jean Valjean, tho hero of Les Misernbles. It appeared that ho had remade his life and become a useful, respected and'distinguished citizen, and had worked out a complete reformation.

Montaguo later dined with Kruger, after which ho left for Syracuse, to attend tho bedside of his ailing mother.
