BOXING POSTPONED
AMERICAN TITLE MATCH DECISION OWING TO RAIN TOMMY FARR'S OPTIMISM (Received August 27. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 26 The boxing match between Joe Louis, the American coloured boxer, and Tommy Farr, the former Welsh miner, for the American heavy-weight title, has been postponed until Monday owing to rain. This morning the skies were overcast and it was raining occasionally. A sudden flurry in wagering, which previously was virtually non-existent, is reported, indicating some belief that Farr has been under-rated, and there is a desire to take advantage of long odds. Considerable comment was aroused by ' a radio speech, in which Geno Tunney, the former champion, predicted that Louis would knock out Farr in the fifth round. The postponement of the match has intensified the interest. The boxers have returned to their training camps. Farr, still full of optimism, said: "I will lick this fellow even if he is a strong favourite." Sporting writers do not share this confidence, but an increasing number advise Louis that an early knock-out is desirable. Dr. William Walker, of the Athletic Commission, after examining tho men, said that Louis' reactions were more nervous than Farr's. The postponement was liable to affect Louis' fighting.
