N.Z. TROTTING CUP

LIMIT FIXED AT 4.26

LAP PRIZES INCLUDED

[BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] , "CHRISTCHURCH, Friday

The New Zealand Trotting Cup, to be decided at Addington in November, bas been made for horses that are assessed at 4.26 or faster, for two miles., The stake is £2500, which is £SOO more than last year, and £IOOO more than in 1935.

Tho committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has .incorporated a condition in the programme which gives it tho right to decline the final acceptance of any horse, and to refund any payments made. The condition lias been adopted for the purpose of excluding horses the committee many consider are past their best, or otherwise unsuitable to compete for the big prize. Lap prizes have also been included in the stake, and a time restriction has been placed on the first four furlongs and mile and a-quarter. A prize of £IOO will be given to tho horse first past the winning post tho first time round, provided that that part of the contest, which is four furlongs, is covered in 1.6 or faster. Another prize of £l5O will be given ? for tho first horse past the winning post tho second time round, which distance,, a mile and a-quarter, must. be traversed in 2.45 or faster. Should the track bo slow the sectional times wilt be rovised. Tho object of the Jap prizes is to ensure tho race being run in! fast time and to provide a thorough test of speed and stamina.

TROTTING IN SOUTH ; CLUBS IN STRONG POSITION It announced at the annual meeting of the'Forbury Park Trotting [Club that very soon tho freehold and buildings on the course would be unencumbered. Forbury Parle, was purchased ! by the Trotting Club .in 1908 tfor £BOOO,. the money being raised by a mortgage of £4550, and a debenture issue for nearly all tho remainder. The debentures were cancelled last year and three months' notice of the cancellation of tho mortgage will shortly expire. Further evidenco of tho healthy condition of trotting in Otago was given at the annual . meeting of the Oamaru Trotting Club,'when it, was announced that jibout £llOO had : been spent .on tho, joint account with tho Jockey"Club on | improvements to tho course. The capital- account had improved by a similar. 1 amount and now stood at £8584.. j After increasing its stakes to £I4OO, tho Gore Trotting Club finished f the season with" a' credit of £331 j-' This : club also'is in a strong position, finan- ( dally. TAUMARUNUI MEETING CLOSING OF NOMINATIONS The sum of £2400 and n trophy valued at £2O will be distributed in stakes at the Tauinarunui Racing Club's meeting at Paeroa on October 2 and 4.
