WOMEN'S RECEPTION

MR. A. HENDERSON'S VISIT INFLUENCE FOR PEACE [by telegraph—own correspondent] WELLINGTON, Thursday The Pioneer Club, gaily decorated with masses of spring flowers of all descriptions and varying hues, was the scene of a delightful reception this afternoon given by combined women's societies in honour of Mr. Arthur Henderson, M.P., who arrived at Wellington from London by the Rangitane. Mr. Henderson is the English delegate to the Peace Conference at Melbourne. There was an attendance of about one hundred women, with Mrs.-Peter Eraser in the chair. The gathering was a particularly representative one, most of the societies represented being national in their membership. They included the National Council of Women, the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the Women's Division or the Farmers' Union, the Pioneer Club, the League of Nations Union, the International Study Circle, the Women's Service Guild, the Women's Social Progress Movement, the Young Women's Christian Association of New Zealand, the Young Women's Christian Association of Wellington, the Women's Institutes, the Elizabeth McComb's Club, and the Labour Women's Movement. The guest of honour was received by Miss Amy Kane, president of the Pioneer Club, Miss Evelyn Watson, National Young Women's Christian Association of New Zealand, and Miss Jean Stevenson, national general secretary of the Young Women's Christian Association of New Zealand. Mrs. Frnser introduced Mr. Henderson to the gathering, and ho was later welcomed by Mrs. B. L. Dallard, vicepresident of the National Council of Women on behalf of the women's societies. Mr. Henderson gave an inspiring address on women's responsibility for world peace. During afternoon tea, all present had the opportunity of meeting Mr. Henderson and discussing many topics of the moment with him.
