ELLERSLIE TRACK

KELLY DOING WELL

TYBALT'S SIX FURLONGS FERSEN AND RINGSHOT The No. 3 grass was available for galloping at Ellerslio yesterday, when a heavy ground fog made timing difficult before the breakfast interval. The going was holding and few fast times were recorded, a large number of horses being restricted to steqdy pacing on the sand and the tan. On tlio grass Flcetwind (Gilchrist) covered five furlongs in 1.9 3-5. Bho is progressing satisfactorily and may be improved this season. Top Star (Wiggins) was, not after time while traversing tho same distance. Kelly (Gilchrist) placod five furlongs behind in JL.O 2-5. Ho is doing woll and should be in good trim' for tho spring meetings. Vaalso and Gay Cavalifcr sprinted throo furlongs in 43 3-ss. There was little between Grand Dance (Tremain) and Aero Queen (Moody) at tho end of five furlongs in 1.11 3-5, tlio lasb three in 435. Thoy arc making progress and Aero Queen is more robust than formerly. /§ Locknit (Tremain) completed his task with three furlongs in 42 4-ss. Ho took no harm from his outing at the Pakuranga meeting, whore lie did not have tho best of luck, Kiltowyn (Cameron) covored six furlongs, being assisted over tho last three by Play On (11. J. Fearn) in 40 4-ss. Kiltowyn made a creditable showing in tho Jellieoo Handicap last Saturday and ho may show an oarly return to form.

Trcvaco (O'Connor) ran half a mile in 555. He has hardened in condition a good deal in recent weeks. Droll (Wiggins) completed useful work with three furlongs in 40 2-ss. Sho is not being unduly hurried, but should bo ready to raco at short notice. Ferson ) Wiggins) was slightly in front of Ringshot (Gilchrist) at tho ond of six furlongs in 1.21 4-5, tho last threa in 40 4-ss. It was a sound effort and Ferson appears benefited by his raco in tho Dunedin Handicap. Sir Jlussell (Markwiclc) and Englishman (Gilchrist) showed dash ovor six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, tho last threo in 41 2-ss. Backblook (P. Fearn) strode over half a milo in 50 l-ss. Hp hns freshened up nicely in recent weeks. Jalldy Karo (R. J. Fearn) and School Song (P. Fearn) hit out well ovor six furlongs in 1.22 3-5, tho last throe in 41 2-ss. Tybalt (Gilchrist), who commenced several lengths behind tho pair, was right up with them at the ond to record 1.20 1-5. Tybalt <s coming on splendidly. Valinint (Murray) worked usefully over six furlongs, but was not at top at any part. Ho camo through his Jellieoo Handicap engagement in good stylo and has only to go on tho right way to bo a prospect for important spring events.

HAWERA ACTIVITIES JUVENILE DISPLAYS PACE SPRINT BY RULING LADY [by telegraph—own eoniiKsroxnEjfTl HAWERA, Thursday As a result of continued fine weather, the tracks at Hawcra aro hard and most of the fast work this morning took place on tlio new plough, which was in good ordor. j The only sprint in the course proper was accomplished by the two-year-old filly Ruling Lady, by Rulannt from Gaiety Girl, who ran three furlongs nicely in 395. She is in T. Fryer's stable and has come to hand nicely during the past month. She will probably make her first appearance in the Debutant Stakes at "VVanganui. Kia Ora (Fryer) covered thrco furlongs in 39 4-ss. The speody daughter of Vaals and Somo Lady is carrying more condition than last season and should not remain long in tho novico class. Lowenberß (Murray) finished half a length in front of Lickem (Monkley), with Narrator (Cole) a length further back, at the end of half a mile in 545. They went very fast in the early stages, but Lowenberg was too good for his companions in the run. home. ■ Master Limond (Fryer) continues to impress and was responsible for an attractive effort over five furlongs in 1.7}. Bimbo (J. Glynn) was sent twice round over eight steeplechase fences and gave a safe display. Ho commenced at the brush, where ho foil on Tuesday, and was very careful over tho first three obstacles. On the course proper yesterday morning, Reo Ra, tho half-brother to Taitoru in T. Fryer's stable, began smartly from the half-mile and led Riverfeale (Colo) throughout to finish clear in 535. 'Reo Ra pleased by the manner in which he completed his task. Swift and Sure (P. Butler) was also given his first schooling lesson since his recent escapade and was responsible for a splendid round over fivo hurdles. He worked tho reverse way round and showed no inclination to shirk his fences. © Fafner has resumed work and his owner-trainer, Mr. F. Walker, is hopeful of racing him on at least one day of tho combined hunt meeting.

HORSES FOR TARANAKI FERSEN AND GAY REBEL It is intended that Fersen, Gay Rebel and Olivette shall keep their engagements at tho combined meeting of tho Taranaki and tho EgmontWanganui Hunt Clubs and arrangements have been made for them to, leave for New Plymouth at the week-end. Fersen appears to have been sharpened up by his race in the Dunedin Handicap last Saturday and he is progressing in a I manner which augurs well for his spring J prospects. Gay Rebel, who has not raced since ho contracted a cold at Awaptmi in July, is an improver who demonstrated that lie was capablo of holding his own in open company when ho dead-heated with Day Wind in the Woodstock Stakes, one and a-quartor miles, at To Awamutu in June. Gay Rebel should have prospects in middle-distance handicaps at the spring meetings. Olivette is an aged half-sister, by Romeo, to Gay Rebel. She has not done much racing but has won in county company at Whangarei. H. Jury stated yesterday that Kilonsa and Land Girl would not make the trip to Now Plymouth. There is nothing amiss with the pair, but thoy will be kept for meetings nearer home ..and will probablv _ race at Avondale. It is likely that Kilonsa; will be given an opportunity to show her worth over middle distances at the spring meetings and she may be entered for the Avondale Cup. The chances are that she will prove better over a littlo ground than at sprint distances.
