SCHOOL CADETS
Sir, —Now that physical education is being recognisod as an essential to '' a sound mind in a sound body" the question arises why the school cadets were ever abolished. The school children delighted in the work; it inculcated lessons of obedience and discipline in a manner welcomed by the children, and which no other means of teaching these necessary virtues has ever been able to effect to the same degree. There is no need to fear such an organisation ever being used as the Germans use their training of the children; that is, as part of a military training, any more than such a fear could attach to a Boy Scout. I much deplored the decision to abolish this splendid organisation, and would rejoice exceedingly to see it revived again to continue fulfilling its most useful work of building up our younger lads into strong and disciplined youths, and so, 1 am sure, would thousands of parents, and hundreds of thousands of the scholars themselves. 231 Parnell Road. J. Thornes.
