PARNELL SCHOOL

MODERN INFANT BLOCK PROGRESS WITH ADDITIONS Good progress has been mad© with, the additions to the infant department/ of the Parnell School and the newclassrooms will bo available when the school reopens on September 6. The latest advances in school planning have been incorporated into the rooms. One wall of each consists of largo glass folding doors facing north, and these can bo kept open on a great number of days each year, so that classes will work under almost open-air conditions. Included among the modern equipment of tho rooms are wall blackboards for the children built conveniently near the floor, and on a similar slope to that afforded by an easel. Along another wall of each room, and also within the easy reach of tho small children who are to occupy the new building, are a number of cupboards with built-in shelves. The rooms have power points installed and these will l>e used for heaters and possibly for radio sets. The windows on the southern side are placed fairly high so that any draught that may pass through tho rooms will be well abovo tho heads of tho young children. Tho infant block to which tho additions are attached was opened only a year ago, but so rapidly has the attendance at tho school expanded that this has proved inadequate, and during tho presont year it has been found necessary to hold classes in a sheltershed.
