MEMORIAL AFTERNOON The gathering of the Northcote Women's Progressive League in the parish hall on Thursday afternoon, in remembrance of the late! " secretary, Mrs. A. Taylor, was largely attended. The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, presided, The patron, Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, and the vice-president. Mrs. J. P. Howdcn, also the Rev. H. L. R. Isherwood and the Rev. Father M. Hunt, paid a tribute to the work done, bv •Mrs. Taylor for the league and. the district. Letters of appreciation of Mrs. Taylor's work were read from Lady Gunson; from Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, president of the* Civic League; and from Mrs. Ada M. McNair, secretary of the Auckland Mayoress' Memorial Library The members stood in silence'. The vacancy was filled by the unanimous election of Mrs. A. E. Tremain as secretary and treasurer. Mrs. D. P. O'Leary acted as secretary for the afternoon. ' ; ■ A vote of condolence with the Misses Gillibrand was passed on the death of thoir mother, Mrs. Emma Gillibrand. It was decided- to forward a resolution to the Government urging that the Maoris be allowed to remain at Orakei, and that a model pa be made there as an attraction for tourists. A bring-and-buy stall was held to provide Christmas cheer for returned soldier patients of the Mental Hospital, and in accordance with the wish of the late secretary the whole of the proceeds, 10 guineas, is to be devoted to that object.
