OBITUARY

MR. ARTHUR G. STEBBING

OLD PONSONBY RESIDENT

Tho death of Mr. Arthur G. Stebbing, a well-known resident of Ponsonby, who had been stationed in Auckland as an officer of the Lands and Survey Department for about 35 years, occurred at> his residence, 31 Wallace Street, yesterday morning after an illness of about three months. Mr. Stcbbing, who was 66 years of age and unmarried, was for a long period connected with All Saints' Church, taking a deep interest in its various activities. As scoutmaster he formed the first Heme Bay troop in the early •stages of the movement. Among his many interests was a stud}' of wireless development. MRS. ROSA CARTER The death has occurred at her home in New Lynn of Mrs. Rosa Carter, who was one of the very earliest residents of the Te Awamutu district. Mrs. Carter was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Short, and in IS6P. when only four years of age, went to Te Awamutu with her parents. At that time there were only two European families living there. She later lived with her parents on St. Ledger Road, near the Puniu River. At that period no European was safe south of the river and several times, during the To Kooti troubles, the family was ordered into the redoubt. Throughout her long life Mrs. Carter took a keen interest in Church and Sunday school work. ith her husband, Mr. Richard Carter, she recently came from Dunedin to New Lvnn. She is survived by her husband.
