DEFEAT OF TAUMAU HURDLES TO LORD HEREFORD HUNTER'S MORN WINS NICELY [by telegraph—own correspondent] HASTINGS, Saturday The moderately-fancied Padishah returned a good dividend when he won the Hawkers Bay Cup at Hastings today. The last race was run very latft and on Wednesday a start is to be made at noon instead of 12.30. Although new to hurdling, Taumau was made favourite for the Riverslea Hurdles, but he was comfortably beaten. Iddo made nearly all the running,, but with five furlongs to go Taumau was drawing up to him. Taumau took the lead for a while, but tired in the straight, where Lord Hereford was coming through to clial-/ lenge iddo. Lord Hereford outstayed Iddo, but had to be ridden out to beat Jour net, who should be improved by the race. Iddo was a good third, with Unexpected fourth, and Cotsfield and Taumau next. For a novice Taumau made a fair showing*. The early leaders in the Poukawa Maiden were Paul Robeson, Anubis, Asset "and King's Hope ; with Buster Brown prominent in the next division. Some of the leaders swung out wide on the home turn, Asset being furthest out of all. Paul Robeson took tho turn nicely and looked likely to win, but Buster Brown, hard ridden, got up to snatch the decision by half a head. Cold Nymph was a good third and Shani fourth, followed by Cletrac and Triplex. The winner paid a good price. Jazz Boy Successful Colleen Gain got to the front quickly in the Autumn Handicap and others prominent were .Jazz Boy, Quake and Helios. Colleen Gain was first into the straight, where the bracketed horses, Jazz Boy and Top Hat, were handy. In the run home Jazz Boy won well from Colleen Gain, while Gironde finished strongly to get third. Top Hat was fourth. Fossiker and Nereus are likely to improve. Haut Monde was favourite for the Hawke's Bay Cup. Pakanui began best, but Catalogue had charge leaving the straight and at the six furlongs was joined by King's Lancer, with Gay Boy running up, and Passion Flower, Mandamus, Big Dook, Pladie and Padishah also liandy. Crossing the top Passion Flower, King's Lancer and Gay Boy were almost in line, with Catalogue, Mandamus, Bin Dook. Haut Monde and Passion Flower all fairly well placed. There was no great change entering the straight. Gay Boy soon took charge in tho run home, but Padishah came with a splendid run and beat him by a neck. Haut Monde was a good third and Mandamus was a close fourth. Then came Catalogue, Soho, Master Cyklon and Werohia. Gay Boy ran a great race, considering he moved rather soon, but Padishah won in good style. Haut Monde and Mandamus both did well, but Catalogue did not show much dash in the straight. A Good Performance The Crooner recorded a good performance to win the Nursery Handicap. Lindrum jumped out well and led from Felicitation, The Crooner and Money Raid, but shortly after passing the half-mile The Crooner went back. The Crooner was giving the leaders a big start crossing the top, but he ran on well in the straight., and won decisively from Lindrum. Son and Heir was a fair third, with Felicitation and Money Raid next. The winner was at a short price. Hamarin paid a double-figure dividend in winning the Hcretaunga Handicap from the favourite, Black Fox. Agog went to the front at the outset and at the five furlongs led from Parry and Black Fox, who were well clear of the others, of whom Tupai, Umpire, Trailer, Hamarin and Grey Molly were the most prominent. There was not much change in the order as the horses entered the straight, but the leaders' advantage had been greatly reduced. Black Fox stayed on best of the vanguard, but he weakened near the end, and Hamarin beat him home. Agog and Trailer were in the minor places, and Parry and Blue Garter followed. Blue Garter got away well, but was cut hack before leaving the straight.

The Have lock Handicap was run m the dusk shortly after five o'clock. Hunter's Morn soon hit the front and was followed to the straight by Blygain and Lavina, with Sir Nigel coming on the outside. Hunter's Morn stayed on for a decisive win from Blygain. Sir Nigel was third, with Wananga next. Solaria got away badly.
