' SURELLA SPRINTS SMARTLY i I CYNICAL KID SCHOOLS WELL [BY TELKGXIAPU —OWN COKKF.SI'OXDKNX] HAWK ['A, Saturday Several useful gallops were registered at Hawera this morning in spite of adverse conditions and heavy going. The fast work was performed 011 the outside of the course proper with the ! pegs out approximately 40 feet. The 1 steeplechase course was open and a fine round of jumping was recorded by 1 Cynical Kid, who was accompanied by the novice 'chaser Royal Fire. The best gallop of the morning was recorded by the Ellerslie hack sprinter Surella, who was responsible for a smart half-mile. One Whetu (Caffyn) and filternational (Howe) finished clear of Parquet (Bell) at the end of a mile in 1.52 3-5. One Whetu and International 1 both handled the going well, especially ■ the latter. Parquet is a doubtful starter at the meeting. Surella (Hawkes) registered a smart half-mile in 52 2-ss. He is in great heart and revelled in the heavy going. Boughal (W. Pine) strode over a round at three-quarter pace and sprinted down ""the straight. He is in good order and did work boldly. Notium (Cole) completed pace work by sprinting three furlongs in 43is. the Lvsander gelding will probably race on the second day Dancing Lady (Hawkes) recorded 1.23 for six furlongs. Corowa (Grylls) and Golden Hill (Cole) were on terms at the end of five furlongs in I.IOJ. Frieslaud (Monkley.) was hard held while running live? furlongs with Autumn Loaf (Hawkes) in 1.& The former continues to impress. _ I'afner (Hawkes) was running on nicely at the end of five furlongs in ] .10. Naughty Marietta (H. Fryer) comfortably defeated Golden Orchid (Bell) over live furlongs in 1.7 4-5. Naughty Marietta appears greatly improved since racing at Woodville last week and finished very strongly. The two-year-old Golden Orchid found the distance too far in the heavy going. J. Fryer has had the misfortune to lose the services of Indiscretion, who has a bowed tendon. Tout Le Monde (Button) gave a pleasing, display of fast jumping oyer a round of the schooling hurdles. The Liinond gelding was ridden out all the way and this gained him many friends. . , Cynical Kid (H- Cook) accompanied bv 'Rovai Fire (P. Button), gave a polished exhibition of jumping over eight steeplechase fences. Cynical Kul impressed and may have more than an outside chance in the Egmont Steeplechase. Royal Fire gave a satisfactory display for a novice. C. McCarthy, with Monastic and Skv Pilot, and J. Shaw, with Greek Gold and Palm, arrived to-night. The Wavcrley sportsman, Mr. W. Brewer, had the misfortune to lose his jumper Huafonn on Thursday. It is believed that Iluaform took fright in the paddock during a thunderstorm and became entangled in a wire fence. He was badly injured and was destroyed WAIPA ACCEPTANCES JOHNNY WALLS INCLUDED Johnny Walls, 7.1.1, should he included iii the list of acceptors for the Waipa Racing Club's meeting at Te Awamutu on Saturday. FINE REMITTED The fine of £5 imposed on A. 0. Farland, driver of Franz Derby, by the Auckland Trotting Club's starter when the horses were at the post for the Roavc Memorial Handicap at the summer meeting, has been remitted by the New Zealand Trotting Association.
