93RD BIRTHDAY
RESIDENT OF PAPAKURA One of the oldest residents of Papakura, Mr. J. Glasgow, of Short Street, will be 93 years of age to-day. In spite of his age, he is in full possession of all his faculties, and can still work in his garden and milk cows. He has lived in New Zealand for the last 62 years. Born in Montolier, Ireland, Mr. Glasgow left for New Zealand in 1875, travelling by the sailing ship British Empire. On arrival at Auckland he and his wife first took up their residence at Epsom. Mr. Glasgow worked principally for the late Mr. James Dilworth, being in charge of stock on his farm at Onehunga. Later he took up a farm in Mangero and began a dairy supply, which served tho Onehunga district. This was carried on by his family for over 40 years.
Sixteen years ago Air. and Mrs. Glasgow moved to Papakura, and celebrated their diamond wedding in 1933. Of a family of 11 children, 10 are living, and there are 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
