SHORTAGE OF DOMESTICS
BAY OF PLENTY HOMES POSITION BECOMING ACUTE [FBOSI OfR OWN COB RESPONDENT] VHAKATANE, Saturday Housewives and boarding house keepers in the Bay of Plenty are experiencing great difficulty in obtaining domestic help. The shortage is becoming acute. Various, reasons are advanced for the shortage, but the general opinion is that young girls, which are the class in greatest demand for housework and general domestic duties, prefer other types of work, in which hours and conditions of employment are subject to a definite form of regulation. The majority of positions offering are for girls to sleep out, and the wages are higher than tliey were a fe'V months ago.
