SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

THREE GAMES POSTPONED PONSONBY PLAYS KING'S Owing to the wot state of the wickets at Eden Park, three of the four senior games, which were to have been played under the control of tho Auckland Cricket Association, were postponed. The match at Dcvonport between Ponsonby and King's Old Boys was commenced, play starting an hour late.

Kind's Old Boys won the toss and sent Ponsonby in to bat on a wicket which caused the ball to kick occasionally. With Ponsonby out cheaply, King's Old Boys have every chance of a first innings lead.

Cottcra 11 was an early victim, the hall off which he was stumped dropping short and deceiving him by its slowness off the pitch. Cleave made little attempt to score and Stallworthy found his host shot, an off drive, blocked by two mon fairly close in to the wicket. An hour's play produced 30 runs, of which Stallworthy made '-M, and he was well caught at extra cover as soon as he attempted to hit out. His innings was a valuable one.

Clark put power into his shots and seemed unconcerned at the position of the game. Driving and hooking lustily, lie added <!<> runs with Sneddon as his partner and put his sido into a greatly improved position. Sneddon batted patiently, treating each ball on its merits and timing his shots well. Fonsonby, batting two men short, was all out at five o'clock.

S. G. Smith made the most of tho conditions, setting his field with skill and making the ball fall quickly. Most of the batsmen failed to judge the pace of the wicket correctly and did not set over the ball. Andrews bowled steadily, but without luck, and Caughey, when he found a length, took two quick wickets. S. G. Smith opened confidently for King's, scoring three fours with pietty strokes before cocking up a ball from McXabb to a man close in at square-leg. With two wickets down King's successfully appealed against the light. Scores:— POXSOXBY. —First Innings T?. Stallworthy, c Fisher, b Smith .. -1 11. B. Cotterall, st Thompson, b Smith .. <1 R.
