FORCED LANDING MADE

DAMAGE TO AEROPLANE PILOT ESCAPES INJURY [sr TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON", Saturday Running short of fuel a Wellington Aero Club Moth aeroplane, piloted by Mr. H. J. Courtenay, made a forced landing on the beach at Cape Campbeir yesterday. The undercarriage of the machine was smashed, but the pilot was not injured. When Mr. Courtenay became lost in the clouds after leaving Palmerston North for Dannevirke, he set a compass course for Wellington, over which he passed, but was unable to see the ground. The beach where he landed at Cape Campbell is 40 miles by airline from Rongotai. It is not known whether the machine can be flown back after repairs have been completed, or whether it will have to be dismantled.
