CARNIVAL SEASON

ATTRACTIONS FOR TO-DAY TROTTING AND OTHER SPORTS Another wide range of attractions will be provided for holiday-makers in Auckland to-day. Should the weather be fine many people will no doubt elect to spend the day at the beaches, but the numerous special sports events are also certain of good patronage. An outstanding attraction will be the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting at Alexandra Park, Epsom, the principal race being the Auckland Trotting Cup, of £IOOO. The meeting will be. continued on "Wednesday and Thursday. Cricket enthusiasts will be well catered for. At Eden Park the provincial cricket tournament will be resumed, and the second day's play in the Brabhr Cup match between Wellington and Auckland juniors will take place at Devonport. The Auckland Bowling Centre s Christmas tournament will be continued at various greens throughout .the city and suburbs, while further play in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Associations annual handicap tournament will take place at the Stanley Street courts. Excursion steamers will be available for thoso who desire to visit resorts in the Hauraki Gulf, and augmented bus services will convey many others to beaches on both sides of 'the Waiteinata. Evening entertainments will wj numerous and varied. A feature will be the opening of the J. C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan Opera season at His Majesty's Theatre, the play to be presented to-night being " The Gpndolicrs." Especially attractive pr°* grammes are being offered by the P ,c ~ turo theatres, and a circus will also give a performance. .Dances will take place at cabarets at halls throughout the city.
