HOUSING SCHEME
MANUREWA DISCUSSION The advisability of the Manurewa Town Board planning to erect houses under the Government housing scheme was discussed at the board meeting on Monday night. When a departmental circular was read the chairman, Mr. W. T. Cox, said he did not think it would be worth while troubling with the scheme. Mr. J. H. Edwards said the board should not lose sight of tho opportunity offering. There was a keen demand for houses in the district and a large waiting list for tenancies. If local bodies did not take advantage of the legislation they would be lacking in co-operation with the Government while retarding the development of their districts. "Now that we have a water scheme in hand we should make a move to attract additional population," said Mr. 10. S. Pegler. "We have the land and sections lying idle and according to the State scheme the finance will be available." It was decided to hold a special meeting to examine the proposals.
