POWER POLES ON ROAD
MENACE TO TRAFFIC RESPONSIBILITY FOR REMOVAL The responsibility for the removal of power poles, which have been left on tho traffic-way as the result of reading improvements, was discussed last night by the Papatoetoe Town Board. At the previous meeting it was reported that, in widening the highway on a portion of the Great South Road, where the owners of a property had granted a strip of frontage 10ft. wide, two power poles had been left in the newly-formed roadway and would constitute a serious menace to vehicular traffic. It was decided to refer the matter to the Auckland Electric-Power Board. A reply received last night stated that as tho poles carried high tension lines tho removal would be fairly costly—the cost was estimated to be in tho region of £34. The letter stated that the Power Board was prepared to make arrangements to charge the Town Board only with the cost. Members said they did not concede that the responsibility for removal rested on the Town Board and it was decided to refer the matter to the legal and finance.committee for report.
