VICIOUS STALLION
ATTACK ON FARMER MAN BITTEN AND CRUSHED LONG CRAWL FOR HELP [bt telegraph—ow.v correspondent] OPOTIKI, Monday Savagely attacked by a draught-stal-lion while working on his brother's farm at Nukuhou North to-day, a middle-aged man, Mr. Harold Holmes, single, suffered extensive injuries to the body and one leg. Mr. Holmes had entered the paddock to catch another horse when the stallion rushed at him, biting him on the body and one leg. He was thrown to the ground, and the horse brought its hoofs down on the prostrate man. Mr. Holmes received injuries to the chest and back, and three of his ribs were fractured. To evade further attacks, the injured man crawled down a bank into a ditch, where he remained in safety until the stallion moved to another part of the paddock. Mr. Holmes then crawled back to the farmhouse same distance away, and was later brought 18 miles to Opotiki for medical treatment. The extent of his internal injuries is not yet known.
