THE FISHING SEASON
PROSPECTS APPEAR BRIGHT LIBERATIONS OF TROUT FRY [ny TEI/EGR APH OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Tuesday The Ngongotaha trout hatchery is still working at full capacity, and regular liberations are at present being carried out by the Internal Affairs Department officials in the Bay of Plenty rivers and lakes in the Rotorua district. In some districts the amount of fry liberated is well in advance of previous years, while in other districts a good average has been maintained. During the next ten days it is expected that the liberations will total over 1,000,000 fry and further liberations will be made before the hatchery is closed down for the season. Good rises have already been observed in the Rotorua and Taupo lakes, particularly at Tarawera and Hotoiti, and prospects appear good for the opening of the season on November 1.
