Chambers' car skidded on the Newtonards railway bridge, demolished a lamp-post and mowed down a crowd of people standing against a wall. A boy was killed outright and 17
spectators were injured, three of whom died of injuries, while two others are not expected to recover. Chambers was not seriously injured.
