Mesdames Britten-Jones and Negus were two up on the first two holes ar\d threo up at the sixth. The New Zealanders won two of the next three to be one down at the turn. Both pairs went out in 42.
Miss Horwell was not confident on the greens. The Australians won three holes in succession after the turn, halved the fourteenth and won the next for the match.
The golf in the other match was below the standard expected, Miss Hutton and Mrs. FuHerton-Smith playing the better for their sides. Little separated the teams and the lead kept seesawing. They were square at the ninth. The Australians went out in 43 and the New Zealamlers in 44. The visitors were one up at the tenth, square at the fourteenth and one up at the fifteenth, but Miss Kay lifted her head in marking her second shot at the last hole, enabling the Australians to square the match. Better Standard in Singles The play in the singles was better. Miss Kay always had the upper hand of Mrs. Clements. She led one up at the turn and continued steadily to the end of the match at the fifteenth. Mrs. Britten-Jones was superior to Mrs. Fullerton-Smith. Her play was brilliant over the first thirteen holes at which stage she was four up. The New Zealander then produced her best display of the fixture, the next four yielding her two pars and two birdies to square the match. The Australian Huffed hor second on the last green and Mrs. Fullerton-Smith took the hole with a five and the match. The Australians always had the lead in the other matches. Miss Hutton was two up at the turn and Miss MeLeod was one up. Both were one up when playing at the fifteenth. Miss Hutton took the eighteenth, Miss Helean pulling her drive into "tiger country." Miss MeLeod and Miss Horwell were all square when playing the last hole. The Australian was six feet from the pin and took two putts. Miss Horwell played short, ran through and missed the return, to lose the hole to a four.
