VICTORIAN TITLE
PLAY IN THIRD ROUND
WILLIAMS BEATS FERRIER
(Received September 3, 6.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 3
The surprise of the third round of the Victorian amateur golf championship to-day was the comparatively easy defeat of James Ferrier by the present title-holder, K. L. Williams, 4 and 3. Ferrier did not win a hole until the eleventh, and the only other he won was the fourteenth.
Tho pair hitherto had met four times in five years, Williams winning on each occasion. He is a left-handed player and, like Ferrier, a very long driver. Each is 6ft. 2in. in height and 21 years old, but Ferrier weighs 14st. 51b., nearly three stone heavier than Williams. Other results of to-day's play are:— Ryan beat Fisher, 7 and 5; Nettlefold beat Russell, 2 and 1. Wins were also registered by S. Dalrymple, L. Hardie, A. Rae, A. Jackson and F. Gluth.
