EX-SERVICEMEN'S BALL The annual ball held in the Waipu Hall by the ex-servidemen of Waipu on Tuesday evening was a very pleasant occasion. The hall was decorated with greenery, seasonable flowers, and flags. Included among those present were: Mrs. W. R. Lang, Mrs. F. Middleton, Mrs. D. N. McKay, Mrs. J. C. McKay, Mrs. T. Mcßae, Mrs. F. McLean, Mrs. J. W. Durham, Mrs. N. McMillan, Mrs. G. Sutherland, Mrs. J. Kay, Mrs. W. Muller, Mrs. W. Griffin, Mrs. D. Nesbitt, Mrs. A. Brooks, Mrs. A. Russell, Mrs. J. Sloane, Mrs. R. Russell, Mrs. N. Russell (Napier), Mrs. H. T. Gardner, Mrs. S. Mcßae, Mrs. J. Garland, Mrs. K. Cooper, Miss B. McGregor, Miss E. McLean, Miss Joan Finlavson, Miss J. Finlayson, Miss Z. McLean, Miss Marion McLeod. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Whangarel Civic League: President, Mrs. W. J. Dawson; vice-presidents, Mrs. W. Jones, Mrs. L. J. Brake; honorary secretary, Mrs. Potts; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Allan; committee, Mesdames Cleaver, Hore, Mcßeth, Blackburn. Heed, R. Tudehope, Grant, Foster and Misses H. and G. Jones. An enjoyable afternoon was spent by parents and children at the North River School, Waipu, the function being a farewell to the teacher, Mrs. K. Griffin, who is leaving the district. The chairman of the committee, Mr. K. Cooper, on behalf of those present, made a gift of an electric bedside lamp. The pupils contributed a short programme, and the ladies provided afternoon tea.
