PAPATOETOE FUNCTION
CLUBS' PRESIDENT HONOURED Members of kindred social and sports bodies in tlio Papatoetoe district combined on Saturday evening in a complimentary social evening tendered in honour of Mr. and Mrs. R. MacLeod, to mark the 25th anniversary of their wedding. Tliero were present many members of the Franklin Burns Club and the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, of which Mr. MacLeod has been president for many years. Mr. H. C. Webster and Mr. B. Hounslow, executive members of the Athletic Club, arranged and directed the programme, which included vocal numbers by the Rev. Father Dully, elocutionary items by Mr. G. Newsome and Highland dances by Joy Archibald. The guests of honour wero piped to the stage by Pipers L. Amor and T. Stewart, of Auckland. They wero preceded by two tiny children, Pay and Joy Archibald, attired in full Highland regalia costume. The presentation of a set of carvers was made by Mr. It. Allan, who conveyed congratulations and good wishes 011 behalf of the company. A wedding cake was cut by Mrs. MacLeod. The evening was concluded with dancing to music provided by the Collegians Dance Band and several Scottish numbers were, danced to piping accompaniments by Mr. T. Stewart. Mr. L. Amor played the solo dance piping accompaniments. Among the visitors were Mr. W. J. Nicholson, chairman of the Papatoetoe Town Board, Mr. C. It. Petrie, M.P. for Hauraki, and Mr. W. W. Massey, patron of the Athletic Club. The Auckland St. Andrew's Society, the Auckland Pipe Band and the Otahuhu Caledonian Society were also represented.
