LOVE AND LITERATURE
" Thorn Harvest " tell,s of Jano Corydon who spent her childhood in Persia and was never fitted by temperament or environment to mix freely with her fellows. She developed a burning ambition to write. Thwarted by her lack" of success, she accepted Brett Fernio's proposal of marriage, nfore out of spite against her failure, than for any lovo of him. Brett's work took them to the East, and 110 sooner was Jane firmly married and marooned in the back of beyond, than literary success burst upon her. Her novels sold like hot cakes; her plays packed theatres. She met Nicholas Waring, who was unhappily tied to a woman many years his senior, and they fell in love. Ultimately Waring's wife died, and he was tried for her murder, but was acquitted; and at this stage Brett very conveniently also fell in lovo with another, and, after a general and mutual divorcing, Jano and Nicholas were free to marry at last. Miss Ferguson's siniple romance is competently told. "Thorn Harvest," by Margaret Ferguson. (Hutchinson.)
