EXPORT OF FISH

AUSTRALIAN MARKET AN INCREASING DEMAND The opinion that there was an everincreasing market for Now Zealand fish in Australia was expressed by Mr. S. Vella, managing-director of tho Auckland Fishermen's Company, who returned from a visit to Sydney by the Monowai yesterday. New Zealand fish, he said, was becoming moro and more popular and it was now being supplied to all States in the Commonwealth, including "Western Australia. Fish was comparatively scarce in Sydney, Mr. Vella said, and much that was of poor grade was sold. At one time there had been a prejudice among many Australians against imported frozen fish, but that attitude was disappearing, for it was being realised that supplies were being landed in perfect condition, especially when treated by the most modern processes. Mr. Vella said that only tho surplus local supply was sent to Australia. Certain criticism had been made that the local market was depleted to meet the export demand, but that was untrue. Fish was exported only when tho New Zealand market was satisfied.
