GRIM SECRET
MURDERER'S CONFESSIONS FATHER REVEALS STORY LONDON. July 5 The father of Aircraftsman Field, who was hanged a few days ago for the murder of Mrs. Beatrice Sutton in her flat at Clapham last April, told a representative of News of the World that his son confessed to him that he had murdered Norah Upchurch in an empty shop in Soho in 1931. After the crime Field wrote a note to his father, stating: " 1 killed Miss Upchurch. It got me down. I am ending it by gas." His attempt to commit suicide, however, failed. Field later confessed to the police but was tried and acquitted. Although his father knew his son was guilty, he aided in his defence and kept the note secret until to-day. He says his son also confessed to having murdered Mrs. Sutton.
" I only wish he had succeeded in committing suicide," added.Mr. I'ield. " Mrs. Sutton would have been alive, while his mother and myself would have been saved the agony of knowing that our son was hanged.''
