James Guthrie, who won in record time the Senior Tourist Trophy race in the Isle of Man last month, became European Tourist Trophy champion when, riding a Norton, he won the 500 c.c. event at Chemnitz: He covered the 215 miles in the record time of 2 hours 40 minutes 21 seconds, a\craging 81.25 miles an hour. Britain has won two other European titles.
