WINTER SHOW
ACTIVE PREPARATIONS OPENING ON WEDNESDAY TRANSFORMING WHARF SHEDS Tn preparation for the annual Auckland "Winter Exhibition, which opens 011 Wednesday, the Central Wharf sheds aro a scene of intense activity. Nearly 200 carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, and other workmen, aro busily erecting entrances, stagings, showcases, partitions, stalls and the numerous other fixtures that must bo completed before the opening. Jn the past few days the sheds liavo l>een transformed into n semblance of the familiar Winter Show layout. The general construction is being done by nearly oO men from the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's building staff at the Show Grounds. Stallholders are already busy arranging their exhibits, and where all the cargo has not been removed from the sheds, the stalls aro springing up among it. There has been an especially heavy demand for space this year, and the joint managers, .Mr. W. F. O'Donnell and Mr. J. Findlay, said on Saturday they had seldom had such difficulty in allotting the requisite number of stalls. The dining facilities at the show have been greatly improved this year. Another improvement is the provision of nearly 200 ft. of largo glass-fronted showcases for the needlework section in place of the wire-netting structures that have hitherto been used. Entries have been good in practically all the competitive sections, and a high standard is assured. The Auckland Kennel Club's show will be held during the first two days, and the space occupied by this will afterwards be used by poultry and other birds, and later by rabbits. Displays of model aeroplanes, yachts, nud an exhibit by tho Territorial Association will also be on show during the second week, when tho popular model aeroplane flying competitions will be held.
As usual there will be freo motionpicture entertainments and excellent programmes have been arranged oil tho stage. Several bands will be in attendance, and items will be given by a large vaudeville party, a South Sea Islands concert party, dancing schools, magicians, and numerous other artists. Further entertainment will bo provided by a wide variety of side-shows. The exhibition will be officially opened at 7.30 on Wednesday night by the Minister of Industries aiui Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, and will continue until July IS. The usual arrangements have been made for schoolchildren in the caro or teachers to bo admitted free.
