TEST ON A LINER
ACCOUNTANCY STUDENT CAPTAIN AS EXAMINER , An unusual duty, even for so versatile a man as the master of a liner must be, fell to the lot of Captain W. P. Martin, of the Niagara, yesterday, when he acted as examiner for a young accountancy student who is on his way to Fiji, to take a post with the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Limited.
The student, who is a passenger on the
liner, was anxious to sit for an examination conducted lby the Association of Accountants of Australia on Monday, but to have waited in Australia to undergo the test would have meant him missing the Niagara. Arrangements were therefore made with Captain Martin to conduct the examination.
It liad been planned to hold the test on Monday, but the weather conditions were such that Captain Martin considered it unfair to expect a student to concentrate on the niceties of accountancy problems. He therefore decided to postpone the Examination until the liner reached port yesterday, when the student could work in quiet conditions approaching those of a regular centro.
The test papers were handed to the master of the liner before she left Sydney, and the candidate's answers will bo duly forwarded to the association for marking.
