FIRE IN INFANT SCHOOL
WHAKATANE OUTBREAK EARLY ALARM GIVEN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHAKATANE. Thursday A fire broke out in the Whakatane infant school yesterday morning. The brigade was on the scene within a few minutes, and the outbreak, which started under the building, was extinguished with bucket and pump methods without resorting to the borough supply. The fire is believed to have been caused by some child lighting a heap of sticks and rubbish during play under the building. A volume of smoke issuing from under the floor drew the teacher's attention to the outbreak and the alarm was given.
