WAIKATO MEETING

FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW GOOD PROVINCIAL SUPPORT HORSES FROM MANAWATU The Waikato Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, which will terminate the country circuit for the season, will take place to-morrow. A few horses from the Manauatu are engaged, but the meeting is almost a district one, with solid representation from Auckland, Mangere, Takanini and Waikato. Of the acceptors, 28 have winning form, while 18 others have filled minor places. The visiting horses are Arapai, Winshow, Electric JJell, Claudelamls, Franz Derby and Mr. Guy, and, with the exception of the last-named, who is a likely improver, they have displayed useful form. Arapai has won three races and Winshow has scored twice. Klectric Bell ran third in her only start this season. Franz Derby and Claudelands, who made their initial appearances at Manawatu, each gained a second.

Although there are not many horses from Mangere, quality is well represented. Kewpie's Bond lias been consistent, recording a win and seven minor places in 10 starts. Royal Jewel and Hot Point, who have had two races, each recorded one win, and Derby Fame has had two successes at Claudelands. Gloster and Nelspear have been placed this season. Big Team in Waikato

Waikato stables arc represented in large numbers, including 14 horses who have this season won 30 races between them. -Most successful was Kockella, who won five races and won the Evans Cup for most points on the West Coast circuit, lie is closely followed bv King's Play, Silk Cord, Parochial and Polly Pan with four wins each, but the last-named gained all her successes while in F. J. Smith's stable. Our McKinney has had three wins, whilo General Sarsfiekl, Trymcnt and Waikato Prince have each scored twice. Others to win for the province are Home Brew, Meadow King, Ranfurly Lass and Waskasu. Hearsay, Worthy Boy, Hori Bingen, Sophy Bingen, Luminate, Sir Frank and Red Frontier have been placed. With King's Play, Winshow, Rockella and Our McKinney engaged in the President's Handicap, there should be a good chance of the fine trophy attached to the race remaining in the district. The Te Kowhai Handicap field also is largely representative of local stables and includes Silk Cord and Parochial, who have made pronounced improvement with recent racing. Waikato Prince and Polly Pan will also represent Waikato in the trotting events. Takanini Horses

F. J. Smith has only four horses engaged, but three of them, Nervie's Last, Muriel Bond and Swordsman, aro recent winners. Tollgate will be making his first appearance for this trainer. Nervie's Last is the stable representative in the two principal events. Muriel Bond will be in a new role, as she is listed for the saddle race, while Swordsman will contest a trotting race.

Epsom entrants aro not as numerous as usual, but some of the horses have displayed useful form. Cherrill won two races in attractive style, while Elissa, Bismuth, Dainty Lady and Dilfnshion —who is now at Te Awamutu — each has won a race Cherrill will be given a chance to show her speed in saddle, while Bismuth may also contest this event. Other Epsom horses who have been racing well without winning include Star Pronto, Stargum, Worthy Princess and Kewpio's Crest. All tho horses placed at Cambridge last Saturday are listed for Claudelands. While the track will be dead, the footing should not be very heavy. Win and place betting will he used. EVENTS FOR TROTTERS WAIKATO PRINCE AND ARAPAI A newcomer to the trotting gait is Tollgate, now in F. J. Smith's stable and an acceptor for the Stewards' Handicap at Claudelands. Elissa, President Boy and Sophy Bingen's prospects will be governed by their earlier displays, but the three back-markers are sound trotters.

For a horse who two years ago was an unknown quantity, and who iias not been extensively raced, Waikato Prince has reached a high standard, and. had he not been aliected with unsoundness, he would probably have won many more races. His form at one stage of last season suggested big things, but he had to be given a lengthy spell. Jt was not until the recent Hawcra meeting that Waikato Prince reproduced anything like his best, but, while he won two races attractively, he was showing signs of his leg ailment. Ihe yielding tracks will suit- him, and, barring accidents, tho Hamilton horse should add further to his laurels.

Arapai has this season made amends for previous failures and he is now one of the most solid trotters. He gave a glimpse of returning form at Wanganui and followed by winning three times in four starts at Awapuni. A line stayer, Arapai should be difficult to beat at two miles. Di I fash ion, who is now trained at Te Awamutu, is another trotter who will be favoured by a two miles journey. He returned to form at the Cambridge summer meeting, where he ran a first and a second, his success being achieved at the longer distance; and again, at Epsom, he was placed at two miles, il ho has retained his summer form, Dilfashion should add interest to the two miles event.
