SOLID TROTTING

WORK AT CLAUDELANDS TESTS ON HEAVY GROUND MISHAP TO OUR McKINNEY [HY TFXKGRAPH —FROM ABAYDOS] HAMILTON, Thursday Following overnight rain, the footing was very heavy at Claudelands this morning for the final work-outs of horses engaged at the Waikato meeting. The trestles were out 30ft. from the rails.

Outstanding performances were recorded by the trotters Waikato Prince and Polly Pan. Others who handled the heavy track satisfactorily wore Arapai, Sir Frank, Bingen Sun, Norrio Hock, Roval Jewel, Stargum, Franz Derby, Mr. Guy and Worthy Princess. Silk Cord and Winshow, both freelegged, went from the mile and a-half, but before reaching the quarter-mile post Silk Cord broke. On settling down he quickly ran to the front and led the rest of the way in 3.59. He ran the final half-mile in 1.13 2-5. Wiusliow marred an otherwise good performance by breaking badly in the last furlong. Arapai and Franz Derby ran a mile and a-half in 3.58, the latter led to the mile in 2.10, but Arapai, under a pull, took her measure, trotting his last half-mile in 1.10.

Native Fashion began two seconds in front, of Royal Jewel from the mile and a-quarter, but the latter finished the better in 3.15, the last half-mile taking 1.14. Royal Jewel has furnished well since winning at the Auckland meeting in February.

Sir Frank led Ilori Bingen all the way over 10 furlongs in 3.11, the final half-mile requiring 1.14. Sir Frank is an improving young horse. Hori Bingen did not relish the going. Tinokaha, after going a mile in 2.34, broke up. Bingen Sun Improving

Bingen Sun trotted a mile and ahalf in 3.51, the last six furlongs at a 2.31 rate. He gave a faultless display. Moriori led Stargum from the mile and a-quarter, setting a lively pace, but Stargum headed him at the five furlongs and, finishing on well, registered 3.12. Moriori took 3.16, stopping badly, which was not surprising, as he ran his first quarter in 355. Polly Pan, after going one circuit at a steady pace, increased the speed and trotting in groat style, recorded 1.12 for tho last half-mile. F. J. Smith's cast-off has settled to her work since coming to Claudelands. Worthy Princess and Mr. Guy ran a milo and a-quarter, the latter finishing slightly in front, to record 3.20, the last half-mile in 1.16. Worthy Princess, although showing symptoms of soreness, showed marked improvement on her display of Tuesday. Norrie Rock worked soundly over a mile and a-quarter in 3.9, and impressed by coming home the last half-mile resolutely in 1.13. Waikato Prince, who went lazily in the early stages, completed a mile and a-half in 4.8. Sent along over the last six furlongs, ho finished full of . running, taking 1.11 3-5 for his final halfmile —the best effort of the morning. Rockella, free-legged, was not seriously troubled to run a mile and a-quar-ter at a 2.40 gait. He finished strongly, running the last half-mile in 1.15. Kewpie's Bond was also allotted strong, unhoppled work. She looks none the worse for her two miles' effort at Cambridge, where the heavy track was against her. On the way from Te Rapa to Claudelands Our McKinney fell and was very lame on arriving at the track. L. N. Vernall was unable to work the pacer, but hopes are entertained that he will be able to fulfil his engagements. RACING AT BLENHEIM TO-DAY'S EVENTS REVIEWED
