A yearling filly by Marconigram, his only representative in New Zealand, is being handled at Awa--1 puni by Mrs. A. W. McDonald for Mr. F. J. Nathan., whose colours have been 1 seen more of ten in Australia than in | the Dominion. The dam of the filly is Pythia, by Psychology from Flora Macdonald, winner of tbe Dunedin Cup. Pythia, although her racing career was cut short by unsoundness, won a few races for ; Mr. Nathan. Psychology is the sire of Cuddle, and the sire of Flora Macdonald was Jioniform, so that the filly possesses some good staying blood. It is understood that she is destined for the Australian turf. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP The Dunedin Jockey Club's dates have again been altered, and the winter meeting will be held on June 20, 23 and 24. The jumper Nocturnus, who was unable to start at Riverton because of a poisoned leg, is again in easy work under A. S. Ellis. Nocturnus is a six-year-old by Night Raid from Victory Lass and has shown distinct promise. Royal Order, by Limond from Anklet, a rising two-vear-old colt who was bought at the January sales by Mrs. H. N. Aynsley for SoOgns., has been disposed of to Mr. J. Richardson, Dunedin, and will continue to be trained by A. McAulay. Mr. E. W. Spencer, president of the Reefton Jockey Club, who is at present in England, liad to wait a long time to see Gas Mask win. He may have bettor luck with a gelding of his own breeding by Rabbi from Jael now being prepared by C. McCarthy at Riccarton. The veteran Ashburton trainer, J. ,T. Lewis, is remaining at Riccarton to prepare The Surgeon for winter racing. The Surgeon was one of the chief sufferers from the milling that occurred prior to the start of the Great Autumn Handicap, and he was badly served at the start. It is 18 months since Emotion has raced, and his last appearances were as a hurdler. At the Dannevirke meeting, to be held at Woodville, he has been entered for the principal flat race on the second day, when he -will race in new colours, those of Messrs. W. C. Whitfield and W. Wilson, who had some success with Royal Lineage. Two three-year-olds entered for the Dannevirke meeting had the same name claimed for them, but first in the field was Blue Garter, while the name of the other was changed to Blue Shirt. Both were in minor places at tho second Hawke's Bay meeting. Blue Garter is the more experienced, but she has not made the same progress as Dungarvan and Onewhetu, whom she divided at Wanganui in February. J. S. SHAW'S SUCCESS RECORD ON WEST COAST The Riccarton trainer J. S. Shaw, who has been as successful as a trainer of gallopers as he was with the pacers, has enjoyed considerable success on the West Coast circuit this season, two excursions having yielded 19 wins and over 30 minor places with small teams, the total stake-money being £1473. On the Christmas-New Year circuit ho took over seven gallopers, namely, Sea Fox. Rebel Star, MeHeath, Dollar Bill, each of whom won twice, Bella Rosa, Princess Rawene and Dark Rose, who won a race apiece. During tho j Easter carnival, Shaw was represented by four runners. Royal Gallant won three races, Rebel Star and Princess Rawene two each, and Needful one. The nine horses produced were, therefore, all successful, a notable result. In addition, Shaw drove a number of trotters with success on various courses. TROTTING FIXTURES April 30, May 2—Forbury Park Trotting Club. May 2 —Cambridge Trotting Club.
