GOLD FOX CASE

APPEAL TO V.R.C. FAILS TEAM TO BE SOLD AS RESULT MR. G. J. BARTON'S DECISION MELBOURNE, April !>G All the horse? raced in Victoria by the New Zealand owner, Mr. G. J. Barton, of Dunedin, will be sold next i Friday. The team includes Gold Fox, 1 Gay Circle, Desert Chief, Jack Horner, Riddle, Autumn Wind, Worship and Reminder. Mr. Barton is taking this action owing to the failure of the appeal to the Victoria Racing Club against tho disqualification of Gold Fox, his trainer, S. G. Ware, and jockey, W. Jenkins, for 12 months at tho • Epsom Turf Club's meeting on April 4. Mr. Barton canio from Now Zealand specially to assist Ware in the appeal with new evidence, which, however, was of no avail. A cable message from Melbourne on April G stated that tho racehorse Gold Fox, who ran fourth in the Somerville Trial Stakes at Epsom on Saturday, the trainer, S. G. Ware, and the jockey, W. Jenkins, were to-day disqualified for 12 months, tho trainer and jockey having been found guilty of dishonourable actions and improper practices in connection with the running of the race. Gold Fox is owned bv the Dunedin sportsman, Mr. G. J. Barton, who is in no way associated with the inquiry. Ware and Jenkins have won several races in association since their arrival in Melbourne. S. W. Ware formerly trained at Dunedin, and Jenkins was apprenticed to him. Last season Ware took a number of horses to Australia, and he has had a fair amount of success. Gold Fox, whp was originally known as Gold Tax. was a winner in New Zealand. He is a five-year-old gelding by Paper Money from Artistic and was bred by hi? owner. RICCARTON JUMPERS LATEST SCHOOLING WORK EFFORT BY JOLLY BEGGAR [BY TFXEOHAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday Pahu and Rasouli gave a satisfactory display over eight of the schooling steeplechase fences on Friday, Rasouli again shaping well over tho sod wall. Pahu has taken a fresh lease of life and he should win some more steeplechases during the winter. Ho will be ridden in forthcoming engagements by G. Ridgway. Colossian showed improvement on his previous day's work by jumping four hurdles at a strong pace. Jolly Beggar carried out a similar task in his usual proficient manner. Mr. G. Hal], Hororata, who has had Polydora, Cottingham and Palmyra in active work in H. Nurse's stable for some weeks past, is leaving shortly on an extended trip to England and expects to bo absent for over a 3*ear. He has arranged that Cottingham and Palmyra will race in his name during his absence, but he has decided to lease Polydora for 12 months to Messrs. N. Rutherford and H. A. Rhind, who formerly raced Ranelagh and Hurlingham in partnership. Polydora, who is ready to re-enter tho ranks of hurdlers, will remain in Nurse's charge. An untried two-year-old at Riccarton who has attracted attention of late is a brother to Riposte. He is a shapely youngster.
