TE AROHA DOMAIN

QUESTION OF CONTROL STATE ADMINISTRATION [by telecraph OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Sunday The question of the future control of the Te Aroha Tourist Domain was discussed at some length by the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce last week, when a letter was received from Mr. C. H. Burnett, M.P. While no official statement has yet been made, it now seems that little more will be heard of the proposal to hand over control of the domain to the local authority. For some years the establishment was conducted at a substantial annual loss, and following the Economic Commission's recommendation that it be either closed or handed over to the Borough Council, negotiations were commenced six months ago. The onjy obstacle to the proposed transfer was the question of how long the proposed Government subsidy of £IOOO a year should continue. Agreement upon this point was almost reached when the elections intervened. Since then the question of borough control has receded further and further into the background. At the moment it seems to be tacitly understood in all quarters that tho Government will continue to administer the domain and both local and departmental activities seem confined to projected improvements to existing facilities. In this connection the provision of a larger swimming pool, the illumination of the grounds, and tho development of the mountain side are engaging the attention of those interested.
