PIOPIO INTERESTS

NEEDS OF THE TOWNSHIP TAR-SEALING OF HIGHWAY [hy tet.ecraph—own correspondent] TE KUITI, Sunday Matters affecting the Piopio township were discussed at a representative meeting convened last week by Mr. .). Anderson. Mr. P. S. Cullen was elected to the chair. The tar-sealing of the highway through the township to abate the dust nuisance and nlso the sealing of footpaths was strongly advocated. The meeting decided to write to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. It. Semple, seeking assistance in the sealing of the highway. Mr. R. W. Neal indicated that Waitomo County would probably be prepared to help in footpath sealing on a 60-50 basis, and Messrs. Dinnison, Crocombe, Neal, Anderson and Robertson were appointed a committee to deal with the matter. The need for a footpath to the school was also stressed, and Messrs. C. Jackson, Demp.sey, Taylor, Anderson, Hodgson and Mrs. Cullen ware constituted a committee to raise contributions from residents toward the cost. The meeting urged the council to push on with the proposal to construct a stock route to divert stock from the township as quickly as possible.
