LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDERLAND TAKES HONOURS TWO TEAMS RELEGATED (Received April 26, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 26 The Soccer season has practically ended, and Sunderland has won the league championship with 56 points. Aston Villa, which spent £40,000 on transfer fees for new players in an effort to retain its position in the first division, and Blackburn Rovers have both been relegated to the second division. Hitherto they were the only clubs which were continuously members of the first dnision since the league was inaugurated in 1888. Charlton Athletic and Manchester United appear practically certain to gain promotion from the second division. . , Only one more match is to be played and the positions of the teams are so even that it appears goal averages will play a large part in both relegation and promotion in the second and third divisions.
