IMPROVED FINANCES
WAITEMATA COUNTY GOOD RATE COLLECTION A satisfactory state of finances was shown in the annual, report and bal-ance-sheet of the Waitemata County Council, presented at a meeting of tho council on Friday by the treasurer, Mr. C. A. Cawkwell. Current rate-collections amounted to £37,670, or 83 per cent, compared with 76.7 per cent collected during tho corresponding period last year. Arrears collected totalled £11,061, or 51.4 per cent, compared with 50.8 per cent collected last year. "Tho report makes pleasant reading," said the chairman, Mr. W. A. Bishop, "and although tho county is poorer by £7OOO than it was at this time last year it must bo remembered there was £16,000 more expenditure."
