PURSUIT BY POLICE
MAN FOUND ON FARM DISCOVERY IN TEA-TREE [by telegraph—owx correspondent] OPOTIKI, Thursday A man wanted by the police in Gisborne and located at Nukuhou North, 18 miles from Opotiki, was the cause of much excitement when Sergeant Millar and Constable Bcasley proceeded to Mr. Raymond Read's farm to arrest him. The.man was not at the milking shed when the police arrived and they waited for him to return. On the way back to the shed he noticed the police car, with overcoats inside, and, guessing who the visitors were, did not wait to make their acquaintance. He promptly took to his heels, with the police and Messrs. R. Andrewes and C. Ross, also two county employees and a Maori, in pursuit. An extensive search along the banks of the Matakerepu Stream was made and tracks were found near a clump of tea-tree, where, eventually, the man was found. He surrendered to the police without giving any further trouble. Ho was handcuffed and brought to Opotiki.
