LION HELPED TO ESCAPE
NATIVE'S STRANGE STORY An elderly native was fined 50s in a Tanganyika native court recently for helping a lion to escape. With the approach of the rainy season and the danger of lions lurking in the long grass beside the paths for tho purpose of raiding stock, native authorities in the Tabora district propared a number of pit traps> Tho accused man found a lion in a trap, and then inado a ladder, went down, and helped tho beast to escape. Ho explained to the court that tho lion in question was his friend, and for many years it always left him a portion of its kill for his sustenance.
