UNUSUAL POSTAGE STAMP

Sir, —While looking through a somewhat neglected collection of postage stamps, the property of a neighbour, I came across a triangular specimen printed in light blue on a white ground. The borders read: ''Pigeon Post, Great Harrier island, Auckland, Gd.," with a pigeon in full flight in the centre. Next to it was a .similar one printed in red, "Is," but badly mutilated. 1 was told that another of these stamps, printed in green, had disappeared. I should be glad if any of your readers could supply information as to these issues, how they were used, their value," etc. 1 take it that the stamps were current in the palmy days of the island, when mining and other activities were in progress, and that they were not an authorised Post Office issue.
