THE KING'S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY OBSERVANCE [by TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Thursday > "The Public Holidays Act, 1910, makes provision for the Sovereign's birthday being observed on a Monday only when it falls on a Sunday, it has al ways been tho practice in New Zealand, with the exception mentioned, to observe the Sovereign's birthday on the actual date, and it is not considered desirable at the present time to make a change." This statement was made in the House of Representatives by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, in,reply to a question by Mr. J. Robertson (Government Mastcrton), who suggested that the celebration should be held this year on Monday, Juije 22, instead of the following day—the actual date of the King's birth.
