HUNGER MARCH

PROTEST IN NEW JERSEY STATE FUNDS FOR RELIEF NEW TOBK, April 22 As a protest against the failure of the New Jersey Legislature to supply State 7 funds for their relief, a small group of unemployed men and women occupied seats in the Lower House, and declared their intention of remaining there until the Legislature was convened once more. The situation took a more serious turn to-day when a hunger march of considerable proportions upon Parliament Buildings was commenced. Trucks and trailers carrying hundreds of men and women arrived in the city and reinforced the hardy 50 demonstrators who had spent the night sleeping on the Legislature benches and used law books as pillows. Food supplies were furnished by local merchants and dispensed from the Speaker's dais. The failure of the State to appropriate relief funds threatens to render bankrupt 550 local communities, which are compelled to find funds to care for the needy who cannot receive Federal aid.
