ORDEAL FOR CLIMBERS AVALANCHE BURIES PARTY, ST. BERNARD DOGS TO RESCUE LONDON", April 20 * How the famous St. Bernard dogs again went to the rescue on the snowclad Alps was told by a girl to the Daily Telegraph's special correspondent at Grenoble, France. Mademoiselle Ranc, with her uncle and his two sons and three men friends,, were overwhelmed by an avalanche at a height of 7500 ft. The girl found herself able to breathe through a crack and managed to climb out. She .realised that the others were buried, and worked with her hands, which were bruised and frost-bitten, until she had brought out a youth, who hastened to a St. Bernard hospice. "The dogs came racing down the side of the mountain," said the girl. "Some pressed their bodies against me to warm me. Others, panting, dug the snow with their paws. Then the monks arrived with spades and all of us were rescued." Three of the party are in a serious condition.
