AERODROME PROPOSAL
AREA AT WHAKATANE QUESTION OF ACQUISITION ' [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHAKATANE, Tuesday Advice was received from the controller of civil aviation, at a meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council last night, that the inspection of the proposed aerodrome site at Whakatane showed that it was in every way suitable from a flying point of view. .Excellent road access was available and, provided two adjoining farms were acquired, an aerodrome could be obtained with runways of 6GO yards in all directions. Subject to the acquisition of the land the department was prepared to assist with the preparation of the aerodrome, it being understood that the area could be brought in by ordinary farm cultivation methods at a very reasonable cost. The Mayor said the committee had asked tho commissioner of Crown Lands whether the department would resume the area and let it to the council as an aerodrome site, on a longterm arrangement. He moved that the clerk be instructed to take the matter up with the Ministers of Lands and Defence, the motion being carried.
