DEATH AT SEA
RESIDENT OF AUCKLAND ; MR. ABRAHAM PHILLIPS An old Auckland resident, Mr. Abraham Phillips, died at sea on the Wanganella on Sunday, while returning from a visit to Australia. Mr. Phillips, who was 78 years of age, was a son of the late Mr. Isaac Phillips, for many years proprietor of a retail drapery and clothing business in Queen Street, adjoining the site of the present Majestic Theatre. Mr. Abraham Phillips came to Nej Zealand with his parents as a boy and later learned the trade of a cordial manufacturer with the firm of Ballin Brothers, Christchurch. As a young man he went to Australia and later established a factory at Chillagoe, Queensland. About 30 years ago 00 retired and made his home in Auckland. Mr. Phillips was a bachelor. Tfo Wanganella will arrive at Auckland this morning and the funeral will be • Waikumete this afternoon.
