A GARDEN PARTY A garden fete, held under the auspices of tho Maunu Women's Institute, was held at the homo of Mrs. J. M. Clark, Maunu, and proved most successful. Proceedings were opened by the Mayor of Whangarei, Mr. W. Jones, who was accompanied by Mrs. Jones. Stalls laden with various goods did profitable business, and together with the results from tho competitions, the sum of over £2l was added to the institute funds. A pageant depicting historical and national events was arranged by Mrs. Hubert Armstrong and Miss Marjorie Burke assisted by a number of school children and scouts. A museum and art gallery was arranged bv Mrs. Armstrong and Miss Burke. Miss A. Hayward proved an excellent exponent of arts and crafts. Gifts for the competitions were provided by Mrs. Bvers, Mrs. Snell, Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. H. Hawkens. At a monthly meeting of the Whangarei Women's Civic League the Mayor, Air. W. Jones, gave an address on borough amenities. In referring to the water supply ho said the residents of Whangarei "had every reason to be proud of their supply, which was the second purest in the Dominion. Its source was a spring in the side of a hill. Mr. Jones gave great praise to those in authority who had the foresight to inaugurate the electricity supply. The Whangarei branch of the League of Mothers neld a successful meeting last week, the president, Mrs. J. A. lnkster, presiding. Mrs. R. Stevenson sang four songs and Mrs. C. Clark spoke on "Floral Decorations." A bouquet was presented to Mrs. Stevenson.
