TRAFFIC IN HAMILTON
CHANGE IN PARKING SYSTEM ANGLE METHOD ABANDONED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Friday It was decided at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council on Wednesday evening tc abandon the present system of anglp parking in Victoria Street in favour of end-on parking parallel with the kerb. The deputy-mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, said that if the council could rely on motorists exercising care and discretion in angle parking it would not have been necessary to make the change. However, the methods of some drivers were so erratic that the end-on system had become advisable.
The town clerk, Mr. W. L. Waddel, gave details of a recent tally census indicating the increase in traffic in Victoria Street. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. a total of 9896 vehicles passed a given point, compared with 8128 for the corresponding dav in 1931, and 6561 in 1926.
